As junior class president at Rancho Bernardo I was honored with the responsibility to plan prom. This included choosing a theme, selecting a venue, arranging vendors, handcrafting tickets and decor, selling tickets, coordinating the prom court king and queen nominees, and much much more. My co-president and I came up with the theme of James Bond and the event name License to Thrill, it was one of my first experiences planning an event and I learned a lot as well as found a passion I continue to pursue, event production.
During the planning process I kept close contact with a professional entertainment company, SOS Entertainment. The school partnered with the entertainment company and was under contract to use their services and DJ's for all school events. I created a close relationship with the company and after coordinating the prom SOS Entertainment offered me a summer internship where I was able to develop skill and shadow several event planners arrange business mixers, weddings, proms, and other school functions.
The following year I was elected senior class president and had the responsibility to organize a class homecoming float, senior parking spots, senior field trip, senior picnic, 3 Red Cross blood drives, fundraisers, and graduation. At graduation I was also honored to deliver a class speech, present the principal, and read the benediction to close the ceremony. It was by far the largest crowd I have presented for and I realized I enjoyed public speaking.
