I am proud to have grown up in Americas' finest city, San Diego. The first website I created on Adobe Dreamweaver was about my hometown.
GOAL
Create and code (html, css, java) a website for my hometown, San Diego.
OBJECTIVE
The design of the website will ensure effortless navigation with simple and clear language. The content of the website will be relevant and comprehensible to readers and the display will establish credibility and entice the readers to continue reading each page.
STRATEGY
Develop a nameplate that accurately characterizes the city and its diverse offerings. San Diego is located in the southern region of California known for its fun beach towns which include pacific, mission, la Jolla and ocean beach as well as Coronado island. Including rays of sun on the “S” of and an illustration on the “O” of San Diego alludes to the casual beach atmosphere the city instills. The logo was created custom for the project as an identifying design.
Color was chosen based upon people's association with San Diego and a continuance of the beach theme. Orange and blue are used to promote the San Diego Chargers, Sea World amusement park and correlate to the orange sunsets and blue tides of the coastline.
Type was chosen for maximum readability, continuance of brand. San Diego as the tagline says is “America’s finest city” which implies a level of sophistication. Avenir is a clean, easy to use and web accessible font which comes in a variety of weights for flexible designs.
Content was created from personal experiences growing up in San Diego I highlighted the top ten activities and attractions to visit for travelers and residences. Accompanying the article was a map of san diego and the mentioned attractions created to continue the theme. On another tab I included personal images and other photos of San Diego so users could imagine San Diego's culture and offerings clearly.
The process of design consisted of sketches, marker comps, wireframes, coding and publishing the San Diego website.
